City Misstep Postpones Council Meeting

The day of its regularly scheduled Manhattan Beach City Council meeting, City Manager David Carmany canceled the meeting due to improper noticing of it, he told Patch.

Carmany blamed the last-minute and unusual council meeting cancellation and subsequent postponement on "human error." At issue was the June 5th agenda somehow not being posted in all of its five usual locations: on two boards outside City Hall, the library, Joslyn Community Center and Manhattan Heights Community Center, he said.

Municipal code and state law require the city to post the agenda in five places 72 hours before the meeting.

"It was an error of omission," said Carmany, who said the agenda was full of important items. The meeting will be re-scheduled.

Carmany, who took responsibility for the mishap, made the decision to cancel the meeting around 10:30 a.m. after staff discovered the hard copy agendas had not been posted at the five locations.

The next council meeting is scheduled for its usual day and time: Tuesday, June 18th.
