Most power has been restored. About 35 homes will remain without power until Wednesday sometime.

Updated: 11 p.m. Tuesday

A vault fire that took two transformers out of service darkened a large swath of Manhattan Beach Tuesday night.

All but approximately 35 customers had had their power restored by 9:32 p.m, said David Carmany, Manhattan Beach City Manager.

Southern California Edison customers on Park Place and Lafayette Court were expected to remain without power for another 16-20 hours, he said.

The fire happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday and SCE was on scene in the area of 1300 Parkview Ave. about 30 minutes later.

Areas affected by the initial outage included Manhattan Village, including the mall, as well as Sepulveda Blvd. to Manhattan Beach Blvd. and some areas west of Sepulveda near Marine Ave., said Manhattan Beach Police Department Sgt. Chris Vargas.

Apparently, diners at Tin Roof Bistro in the mall had their night out interrupted by the power outage.

The restaurant posted on its Facebook page via mobile, "So sorry about the power outage everyone. Manhattan Beach Post & Simmzy's are ready to take care of all of you. We'll see you soon. Gotta love the wind."
