Gun Shots, Hostages Report Initiates Multi-Agency Police Response in Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach police are investigating a false report of a hostage situation that Thursday night sent police officers from multiple agencies, police K9 teams and a helicopter on a fruitless mission, said Sgt. Matt Sabosky of the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The investigation into who made the false report, which is a crime, is ongoing, he said.

The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when police responded to a report of multiple hostages, multiple shot victims and four suspects inside a residence in the 1300 block of 12th St., said Sabosky.

Reports of shots fired turned out to be incorrect, with "no other evidence as corroboration" for the claim, he said.

No one was injured during the incident and no arrests were made, said Sabosky.

The incident, which led to a "full response" from police, lasted about one hour before police determined the initial report was false.

Sabosky said investigators "have some information" as to where the phone call originated from but that due to the ongoing investigation, he could not reveal more details.

Did you hear the helicopters last night? What did you think was going on?
