Mira Costa Grad Honored as Dodgers' Veteran of the Game

The former Mira Costa High School student and his family live in Manhattan Beach.

A Manhattan Beach man was honored as the Veteran of the Game at Dodger Stadium on Monday night during the Dodgers' 8-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

U.S. Army Reserves Maj. Casey Miner, who presently serves with the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and just returned home from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan, was feted during the game.

Miner's accolades include two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. He is also known for developing a resiliency program to help soldiers learn effective coping skills, avoid high-risk behavior and help deal with stress. He has served all over the world, in a variety of capacities, including time at the Pentagon.

Miner, who graduated from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, will be inducted into the school's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame on Sept. 20. He will also attend his 25-year high school class reunion during the Hometown Fair in early October.
