Officer Sabosky Promoted to Sergeant

Manhattan Beach Police Officer Matthew Sabosky was pinned with a new badge today during a ceremony acknowledging his promotion to the position of sergeant, effective Monday, April 7, according to City Manager Dave Carmany.

Sabosky's wife Stephanie and two children, Jack, 5, and Ella, 2, attended the ceremony held in a conference room in the police/fire facility.

Sabosky, who grew up in El Segundo and graduated from El Segundo High, joined MBPD in 2002, after deciding he wanted to pursue a law enforcement career. He is currently assigned to MB's Swat entry team. He has an emergency medical technician certification from UCLA and is SWAT's medic as well. 

In 2005 while assigned to patrol, Sabosky received the medal of distinguished service for handling a radio call involving an elderly female. In 2006, he earned a medal of valor for his involvement in an off-duty traffic collision on the 405 freeway. 

In his 10 years with MBPD, Sabosky has worked in the patrol division, been a member of the South Bay Area G platoon team, and worked in the detective bureau, where he has been a burglary detective and worked the "crimes against person’s" desk. While in the bureau, he was the gang liaison officer and attended monthly gang sweeps, monthly sexual assault investigators meetings and robbery investigator meetings.

According to MBPD, Sabosky is "most proud of his final year in the detective bureau where he was given the opportunity to create the first street-level narcotics team the department has had in several years." Saboksy and his partner seized more than $250,000 in narcotics, more than $100,000 in U.S. currency, and made more than 100 arrests. 

Sabosky has spent the last two years working for LA IMPACT Group 1 investigating major narcotic trafficking organizations and assisting participating police agencies with surveillance related to various types of criminal investigations, according to MBPD.  

After graduating from El Segundo High, Sabosky attended West Los Angeles Junior College in Culver City and obtained a degree in business administration from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. He played college basketball, worked in the business field and completed the El Camino Fire Academy in Inglewood, before deciding a law enforcement career would suit him well, according to a PD spokesperson.
