Police Chief to Address Residential Crime Tuesday

If you're concerned about crime in Manhattan Beach, you'll want to attend this meeting.

If you want to learn more about crime in Manhattan Beach, be sure to attend an informational meeting with MBPD Chief Eve R. Irving and Neighborhood Watch Director Charlotte Lesser Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m. at Joslyn Center. 

Residential crime and theft from vehicles will be addressed, according to an event flyer.

Neighborhood Watch has been in Manhattan Beach for more than 30 years and was started by Lesser. It is an organized group of citizens who work to prevent crime and vandalism.

The meeting Tuesday night will include information about the Manhattan Beach Neighborhood Watch program and how to join it.

According to an MBPD press release, "MBNW has worked tirelessly to involve the community in home/personal safety education, deterring crime and looking out for one another."

MBNW operates with block captains, who distribute "important crime and safety information," according to MBPD.

Block captains, who are volunteers, are "essential to the continued success of MBNW and communication between the residents and police department."

At the meeting, Irvine is expected to "talk about crime and safety and how the community plays a key role in the deterrence and prevention of crime."

In addition, representatives from the MBPD Detective Bureau will discuss residential- and vehicle-related crime as well as the criminal justice realignment and how it affects Manhattan Beach.
