Lakers Sign Steve Nash

The Canadian basketball pro and NBA MVP is said to be leaving the Phoenix Suns to come to L.A. to play with Kobe Bryant, among other Los Angeles Lakers stars.

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly signed Steve Nash, an NBA MVP now playing with the Phoenix Suns, it was reported yesterday.

The Lakers will execute a sign-and-trade deal with the Suns, giving Nash a three-year contract in L.A. for $25 million. The Lakers can absorb Nash onto the payroll because of Lamar Odom's trade to Dallas in December, ESPN and the Arizona Republic newspaper reported.

ESPN.com reported that Nash was convinced to move 400 miles west on Interstate 10 by pleas from Kobe Bryant. The moves also keeps Nash relatively close to his wife and three small children in Phoenix.

Nash, a 38-year-old Canadian, turned down strong offers from the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks, ESPN reported.

The Lakers gave up first round draft picks next year and in 2015, and second round draft picks to the Suns for 2013 and 2014, the Los Angeles Times reported.
