Power Outage Continues for Some Residents

SCE can't say when electricity will be restored to 78 customers who have been without power since 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Some 78 Southern California Edison customers in Manhattan Beach remain without electricity from an outage that began at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, SCE spokesman Paul Klein told Patch at about 3:45 p.m.

Klein said the power outage resulted from "some overhead equipment that failed" and said there was no time estimate for when power would be restored to those customers still affected.

Initially, 3,684 SCE customers in MB and Redondo Beach were affected; however, by 11:30 a.m., power was restored to all but 78 customers, said Klein.

The original area was bounded by 28th Street to the north, Grant Avenue to the south, Slauson Avenue to the east and The Strand to the west.

MB City Manager Dave Carmany said the area that continues to be without electricity is north of Second Street, south of Sixth Street, west of Sepulveda Boulevard and east of Poinsettia Avenue. He reported that SCE will work through the night to have power restored to all customers by 6 a.m. Friday.

This was the second outage in less than 24 hours to hit the Beach Cities. An outage Wednesday afternoon left SCE customers near the Redondo Beach Pier and in Hermosa Beach without power for several hours.
