WHAT?
The drill scenario involves massive earthquake damage in a residential area of the city and secondary damage from a gas line explosion. Upon information being relayed to the MBFD, the MBFD will order all MBCERTA assets to report to Mira Costa High School, parking lot at the corner of Artesia and Peck. The city's Mobile Command Center, as well as the new MBCERTA Mobile Command Center will be established in the parking lot. MBFD also will request mutual aid from other south Bay CERT organizations.

Upon reporting and signing in, responders will be directed to the athletic field in the northwest corner of the campus for staging and deployment into the stricken neighborhood. Survey and assessment teams will be sent into the damaged neighborhood to find and report damage and victims. Search and rescue and fire suppression teams will be deployed. Victims, realistically made up, will be found, rescued, triaged and transported to a treatment area, again the north athletic field, for further treatment. The Medical Reserve Corps will be involved in this aspect of the drill, as will ambulance companies who will transport the most seriously injured to hospitals for treatment.

The full range of CERT skills will be utilized in this drill in a realistic setting. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in fire suppression; search and rescue including cribbing, triage and transport of victims and first aid. This drill will test both the readiness of CERT members to respond to a disaster and their response time; also the drill will provide an opportunity to practice what you know and to acquire new skills.

This will be among the most extensive and realistic ShakeOut drills conducted in the state and will provide participants with an unparalleled opportunity to utilize all aspects of CERT training and skills.

HOW TO PREPARE?
You will need your full PPE, including hard hat, safety goggles, work type gloves and CERT vest if you have one. You must wear long pants and appropriate footwear, no sandals, flip flops or open toed shoes. Sturdy work or hiking boots are best, especially for those who wish to take part in fire suppression, room clearing or cribbing activities. If you expect to participate in victim treatment you should bring latex or similar gloves. Your PPE will be checked when you check in. Anyone not having proper PPE will not be admitted into the drill area. No exceptions.
