Best Computer Repair Person?

Send me to the best Mac laptop repair person around, please. I need to get my early 2000s Mac backed up so the hard drive can be fixed. Apple store in Manhattan Beach doesn't do back ups.

OK. Here's my dilemma.

My work Mac hard drive went on the fritz Monday morning. It's going to be fixed today.

In the meantime, I've finally gotten my very old, ancient, in fact, in computer terms, Mac laptop to perform marginally.

It needs to be backed up before I have the hard drive re-done; before the operating system is re-installed.

I have tons of photos on my personal Mac that I want to preserve.

So, who would you recommend for the job? Please provide their contact information, too.

The less expensive, the better but I really want someone who can do the job right.

So, please make some recommendations.

Many thanks! Happy Tuesday!

cheapest thing would be to run, don't walk, while you're computer is up and running to Apple or Fry's or Target, wherever, and buy an external hard drive. Connect by USB and it's as easy as dragging a file over. You should be able to get one for anywhere from $60-100, depending how large a memory you get. Otherwise, to have it done for you will easily cost 2 to 3x as much, if not more. Good luck! Been there - not fun!

You can do it yourself using free software called SUPERDUPER. Just download the software and use an external USB hard drive. You can get one at Frys for about $60. Make sure sure you load the right version of the software for your operating system ie Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, etc. Older macs run Power PC (PPC). There is another version called CARBONCOPY, it has a free 30 day trial.

The Geek Squad at Best Buy does excellent work and they're inexpensive. Also, the techs at Frys will diagnose it for free.
