Beach Volleyball/Surfing Combo Best Event for Sunday, May 6

Check out the third annual Dig 4 Jimmy Surf N’ Turf Surfing and Volleyball Invitational on the sand south of the Manhattan Bech Pier beginning at 8 am. and continuing until 6 p.m. Music, food, fun, and competition in surfing and volleyball!

Kevin Barry is always at work on something. Never mind that he's the president of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business & Professional Association, Barry keeps busy with his board memberships for several nonprofits, two of which, the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation and the Dig 4 Kids Education Foundation have partnered for a killer event of surfing and volleyball, combined.

So, if you're keen on having fun and watching some local competitors surf and play volleyball, head to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, May 6, where the Jimmy Surf N' Turf gets underway at 8 a.m.

You could catch the likes of previous 2011 champions, including overall winners Aaron Wachtfogel, the 2010 Manhattan Open Pro-Volleyball Tournament winner; Kelly Zaun, the 2011 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge winner-Team Spyder; Greg Knoll and Chris Druliner.

The 2011 surf contest winners were Adam Buckley, the 2010 Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race winner; Jeff Miller, president, Jimmy Miller Foundation; Jay Gleason and Sean Fitzgerald.

The 2011 Volleyball Tournament winners were Eric Fonoimoana, the 2000 Olympic Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist and founder of Dig 4 Kids, Alex Abad, Barry Hill, Casey McGarry and Lilly Snyder.

The 2012 Jimmy Surf N' Turf is an official Manhattan Beach centennial event and will offer music, food and fun.

Our video is a look at the 2011 event.
