Alleged Drunk Driver Causes Early Morning Outage in El Segundo

From City News Service

A suspected drunk driver slammed a car into a light pole in El Segundo early this morning and temporarily knocked out power to more than 4,300 customers, according to El Segundo police and a utility spokesman.

The crash was near the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Sheldon Street, according to authorities. It was reported at 2:36 a.m. said Southern California Edison spokesman Paul Netter.

The crash into the pole knocked out power to 4,337 customers across a wide swath of El Segundo, Netter said.

The area affected by the outage was bounded by Imperial Highway on the north, Illinois Street on the east, El Segundo Boulevard on the south and Hillcrest Street on the west, according to Netter.

The SCE repair crews have restored power to all but 142 customers, Netter said at 8:45 a.m. But there is no estimate regarding how long it will take to power up the remaining customers, he said.
