Snow began to accumulate on roads in northern Los Angeles County, and the CHP began to escort traffic on Interstate 5 over Tejon Summit near the Grapevine at midday today.
Officers briefly stopped freeway traffic and then began escorting it at low speeds through slushy conditions at about 11 a.m., according to CHP dispatchers at the Bakersfield office.
Near there, cars were reportedly spinning out in Frazier Park, an access route to a popular snow play zone on Mt. Pinos.
Near Palmdale, snow was reportedly accumulating on roads in Leona Valley. Godde Hill Road was littered with crashed cars and stuck traffic between 60th Street West and Elizabeth Lake Road.
CHP units were sent to keep the main road clear of parked cars in San Gabriel Canyon, north of Azusa.
Los Angeles County road crews were requiring chains to be used on Big Pines Highway, from Pearblossom east past the Mountain High Ski Area. Highway 2 also had chain requirements from Islip Saddle, east of Mount Wilson, to Wrightwood.
