Dumpster Fire Damages Home

Ashes from wood are thought to be the cause of a two-dumpster fire Monday. A residence nearby is damaged by the heat.

A fire in the parking lot behind two restaurants on Sepulveda Boulevard caused heat damage to a home Monday, said Frank Chiella of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department.

Two dumpsters were on fire when the first MBFD engine arrived and firefighters "quickly knocked it [the fire] down," said Chiella.

The fire began in a dumpster behind and spread to the one next to it. When firefighters arrived, Back Home employees were using a garden hose on the fire.

Ashes from burned wood that hadn't been fully extinguished probably caused the fire, he said.  is the other restaurant adjacent to the parking lot.

Chiella said the house's paint was blistered by the fire, according to the department's report of the incident. The incident was called in around 2:08 p.m. Monday.
