Man Commits Suicide on Beach

Police and fire personnel respond to a call of a shot fired to find a man deceased.

A man died of a self-inflicted gun shot early Sunday morning on the beach near 42nd Street in Manhattan Beach, authorities confirmed Monday.

Manhattan Beach police officers responded to the call of "a shot fired" and a "person down" around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the waterline of 42nd Street and the beach, said Officer Stephanie Martin, public information officer for the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Ken Shuck, battalion chief with the Manhattan Beach Fire Department.

Patch does not yet know the name of the man, his age or city of residence. The coroner's office was not immediately available.
