Police & Fire Open House Til 2 Today

There's lots to see and do, so get there before it ends!

Fire engines and gear. Police squad cars, quadrunners, guns, SWAT gear and more are on view today until 2 p.m. during the Annual Police & Fire Open House today on the outside parking lot of the city's public safety facility at 420 15th St.

The open house showcases the people who provide public safety and emergency response in the ity, said Stephanie Martin, public information officer for the city's police department, as well as the services provided and equipment used.

The police department's crisis negotiation robot will wheel around the grounds, as its operators provide insight into how it is used. Attendees will be treated to an extensive display of specialized equipment and public safety vehicles, including a fire truck, paramedic van, SWAT van, beach patrol Rhino (all-terrain vehicle), beach quadrunner, patrol car, traffic motorcycle, T-3 (electric stand-up vehicle), animal control rescue truck and the mobile command center, donated to the two departments by the Manhattan Beach Property Owner’s Association.

Members of the Manhattan Beach police and fire departments, including the SWAT team, motor/traffic officers, parking/animal control, K-9 team, firefighters/paramedics, will be available. Additionally, volunteers that support Neighborhood Watch, Victim Assistance, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Explorers and the Volunteers in Policing program will be available to answer questions.

Tours of the police jail and fire station will be open throughout the day.

The open house serves as recognition for Fire Service Day and National Police Week, May 12th through 18th, also known as Blue Ribbon Week.
