RB Man Accused of Watch Snatch, MBPD Says

Jonathan Lantieri is accused of stealing a watch from a Manhattan Village jewelry store.

A Redondo Beach resident was arrested Friday on suspicion of grand theft and burglary, Manhattan Beach Police Department public information officer Stephanie Martin said Monday.

The charges stem from an incident at Prestige Jewelers inside Manhattan Village at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday. A man who was looking at watches asked to see a Tag Heuer stopwatch valued at $1,000, then grabbed it and ran through the mall and out an exit. He fled in a black Ford Fusion with a New Jersey license plate.

Jonathan Lantieri, 26, was arrested Friday morning after an MBPD officer spotted the Fusion with the New Jersey plate, Martin said. Officers had been briefed on the watch snatch.

A victim identified Lantieri as the person who stole the stopwatch, Martin said.

The man who took the watch was described as having short black hair, a black, well-groomed beard and moustache. He was wearing black sunglasses and a black sweater and pants at the time of the incident.
