Special Crime Meeting Tuesday Night at City Hall

Police department personnel will be available to answer questions Tuesday night after Manhattan Beach Police Chief Eve R. Irvine gives a crime presentation during a City Council meeting.

City Manager David Carmany told Patch staff will be in the foyer of council chambers to "develop and continue a dialogue" about crime in the community.

The chief's "emergency" presentation comes in the aftermath of a home burglary in which two residents were tied up and held at gunpoint as their home was ransacked last Thursday night.

During the agendized City Manager Report, which is expected to be given about an hour into Tuesday night's City Council meeting, Irvine will address Assembly Bill 109 [prison realignment that is resulting in the early release of convicts] and its effects, crime in Manhattan Beach, victimization, crime prevention and the police department’s response to crime in the city.

The City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers at 1400 Highland Avenue.

Those wishing to speak at the meeting may do so during the "audience participation" portion of the meeting. Each speaker is limited to three minutes to address city council, according to the agenda.

The city manager's report follows the audience participation segment of the meeting.

The meeting is webcast live for those unable to attend the meeting.
