City Event Closes Free Public Parking Lot

A Bike and Skateboard Expo on Saturday, June 9 turns the city's free public parking lot for the public library into an event area, eliminating free public parking close to the library. Were you affected? Did you even notice? Did you enjoy the expo?

On Saturday, June 9, the City of Manhattan Beach's staged the 2012 Bike and Skateboard Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the free public parking lot at city hall that services city hall, the public library, the police station and fire station #1.

According to the city's website, the event featured a BMX and skateboard stunt show, temporary skate park with skateboard instruction and mini contests, a bike safety clinic, a safety quiz, food, giveaways and prizes.

The free public parking lot, which is only accessible from 15th Street between Highland Avenue and Valley Drive, was closed to the public so that the event could be held.

What do you think of the parking lot closure on a Saturday? Should the city have held the event on Sunday, when the public library isn't open so that free public parking for the facility was not impacted?

Were you impacted? Or, did you enjoy the event?
