Millions of Californians will participate in the annual earthquake drill known as the Great California ShakeOut Thursday, Oct. 17.

The drill is scheduled for 10:17 a.m.

According to the Shakeout website, 9.3 million Californians are officially registered for the event, with just over 4.1 million participating in Southern California alone.

As part of the drill, the Manhattan Beach Unified School District is registered to participate as well as the City of Manhattan Beach.

When 10:17 a.m. arrives, everyone is instructed to "drop, cover and hold." Everyone is also encouraged to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies and to secure your space to prevent damage and injuries.
