Letter to the Editor: Land of Milk and Honey

A resident who lives east of Sepulveda Boulevard expresses his thoughts on a trolley proposal for east of Sepulveda.

On Tuesday night, 12/6/2011, the Mayor of MB Nick Tell said we want “a trolley system to take the people from the east side to the west side and back home." Well, we also want to bring people from the west side to the east side and back home.

I live on the east side and we are very proud of our side of the world. We have Raleigh Studios, Kinko's, Target, Ralphs, Fry's, two Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Barnes and Nobles, Helen’s Bicycle, Village mall, movie theaters, an affordable housing complex where seniors hang out, many choices of commercial, savings, and community banks, churches, and hotels, Manhattan Bread and Bagel, See’s, the Marriott and its golf course, the world famous Virginia Slims tennis court, two soccer fields, Mira Costa High School, the Middle School, Meadows School, AdventurePlex, the botanical gardens, Manhattan Heights, Creative Arts Center, Begg Pool, the Water Tower (the world’s largest upside down onion), the Skechers and the Beach Reporter headquarters, Polliwog Park and the Hollywood Bowl type picnic area for great music and Shakespeare-By-The-Sea in the park, a Green Line station, the Comic Bug, large code-compliant residential lots where people still know how to enjoy good old-fashion barbecues in their backyard and great parking. We are not swamped by mansionization even though this is the area where gated communities are found, and we also have the ducks to enjoy; not to feast upon. Well, you see, we do like to fluff our feathers once-in-awhile.

Mayor Tell has his once-a-week walks along The Strand with the residents. Why not also have little intimate walks in Polliwog Park and on Marine Avenue. We eastsiders are a little reticent to talk about our world of plenty, because we do not want to be invaded, and we do not want to stir up jealousy among the westsiders. However, we are nice, friendly and hospitable people. We are delighted to have you visit, shop, and have fun, but you must leave at night on the trolley and go back home to your mommies.
