Video: City Council Meeting Recap

The City Council met Tuesday night to the tune of live music, but still no trash talk.

While the city council meeting started off sweet and sentimental with a Mira Costa musical group performing to two ovations, it quickly went sour as it became apparent that talking trash was not going to happen.

The council was supposed to choose a company as the city's new trash hauler, but because Mayor Richard Montgomery was out sick, the action was postponed to March 1.

Not everyone got the memo.

City Council member Mitch Ward and Manhattan Beach Mayor Pro Tem Nicholas Tell exchanged remarks regarding the miscommunication that caused the city council to put off hearing the public's, and bidder's, remarks about the next waste hauler for Manhattan Beach.

Council member Wayne Powell made an appeal to the current waste hauler for a reduction of the $60,000 fee for continuation of services to $15,000 due to extreme circumstances and taxpayer burden, it was unclear whether or not that request will be met with a positive response by the current waste hauler.

After the council decided to put off the decision for two weeks, council member Portia Cohen apologized to the public.
