2010 Water Polo Champs Beat Mustangs

Laguna Beach High School gives the Mustangs more than they can handle. Five Mustangs score in 18-8 loss.

The Mira Costa boys water polo team never recovered from a lopsided first quarter against reigning 2010 CIF Champions, Laguna Beach High School Tuesday, losing 18-8 to a formidable opponent that had all but five players returning this year. Laguna brought their effective defense and powerful offense bear against the Mustangs.

Mustangs Dylan Colbert and Matt Thornton continued their consistent play, having scored in each of the three games already played this season. Other scores on Tuesday came from the reliable offense of Dan Burdiak, Josh Huttinger and Sam Siltanen.

Matt Grollman never gave up, with six strong saves in the first half. Jimmy Bissell and Cody Kelley made key assists. The Mustangs made a mighty defensive effort, but Laguna’s Nolan McConnell and Cameron Hauer were virtually unstoppable with eight and five goals respectively.
