Mira Costa Routs Long Beach Jordan

The Mustangs continue tournament play today at 3 p.m. at Inglewood High School.

The Mira Costa girls basketball team plays at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Inglewood High School gym in Playa del Rey after beating Long Beach Jordan 45-26 Wednesday during the Inglewood Holiday Tip-Off Classic.

The Mustangs have won their first two games in the tournament, defeating Reseda 63-51 on Tuesday. They took a loss in their first game of the preseason at home against South Torrance 50-47 within 24 hours of having a new head coach handed to them.

Freshman Keilani Ikehara led the team in scoring Wednesday with nine points followed by sophomore Shaylyn Austin's eight. Junior Ashley Reese contributed six points, with freshman Meghan Peneueta scoring five, and juniors Rachel Humphrey and Taylor Lewis scoring four points each. Freshman Haley Tojo added two and junior Cameryn Chan one as the team took a first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Ikehara shot an incredible 75 percent followed by Lewis' 67 percent.

Bay League plays begins on Jan. 10 against West Torrance. The Bay League includes Redondo Union, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Palos Verdes and Leuzinger high schools.
