Weekend Spotlight: Andrew Vandermark

The Mira Costa freshman will surf Saturday in a competition that requires academic scholarship.

Mira Costa High freshman and Manhattan Beach resident Andrew Vandermark talked with Manhattan Beach Patch shortly after 5 p.m. in the El Porto parking lot about what his weekend would be like.

As it turns out, the member of the MCHS surf team will surf Saturday morning in a competition that requires a grade point average of at least 3.0. The National Scholarship Surfing Association contest will take place at the Huntington Beach Pier. Vandermark will ride a longboard in the competition and says that there will be "great competitors."

His GPA right now, according to Vandermark: 3.6. Go Andrew!
