Mira Costa Girls Hoopsters in Playoffs

The team receives an at-large berth for CIF playoffs and travels to Camarillo Saturday for a 7 p.m. game.

The Mira Costa girls basketball team (12-16) travels to third-seeded Camarillo in the first round of the Division 2A tournament Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Mira Costa's objective is clear: slow down sophomore guard Geraldynn Leaupepe, the Scorpions' leading scorer at 13.4 points per game. Mira Costa's scoring is more balanced, led by freshman point guard Keilani Ikehara (7.5 points per game).

If the Mustangs, who received an at-large berth after finishing fourth in the Bay League, can upset the Pacific View League co-champions, they would advance to a second-round game Feb. 22 against either 14th-seeded Moorpark of the Marmonte League or Suburban League winner Mayfair.
