Tourney Serves Fun Day of Volleyball

Volleyball lovers set, stuff and spike at Manhattan Beach's annual Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed Tournament.

Spirits were high despite the June gloom as volleyball enthusiasts hit the sand Saturday for the Mike Cook Marine Street Mixed Tournament. The popular event, named in honor of Mira Costa's decorated volleyball coach, featured coed play for all levels and a father/daughter tournament.

"It's a really cool thing that you can play the same sport together in a team environment as a father and a daughter," said Lance Perry, a tourney participant. "I don't think there are many sports where you can do that."

After 45 years, the Marine Street Mixed is the fourth oldest tournament in beach volleyball—and still going strong.
