Fourth of July Busy Day for Lifeguards

Weather on the July 4th holiday should be mild along the coast, including Manhattan Beach. Lifeguards say they're still expecting lots of visitors during the busiest beach day of the year.

It will be cloudy and cool in Manhattan Beach during the July 4th holiday, though the sun might peak out in the afternoon. Temperatures will peak at 71 degrees along the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

The cooler weather isn't likely to deter crowds, said Los Angeles County Lifeguard Kyle Daniels, who said they expect the "normal Fourth of July Crowd, which is usually our busiest day of the year."

Each of the 158 lifeguard towers on the L.A. county coast will be fully staffed and a back-up crew will be on call, he said.

"Here in Manhattan Beach, we have decent crowds today," Daniels said. "People seem to come out regardless [of the somewhat overcast weather]."

As for weather on the Fourth, "A weak upper level low off the Southern California coast will keep temperatures a few degrees below normal through Thursday and produce areas of night and morning low clouds near the coast," according to Weather Service meteorologists.
