Community Honors Police, Fire on 9/11 Anniversary

Locals gather at the Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Safety Facility to meet the men and women tasked with public safety.

Residents turned out Saturday morning, Sept. 11, to put names and faces to the firefighters and police officers who serve the Manhattan Beach community and to reflect on the greater significance of the day.

The police and fire departments brought out their equipment and showed off shiny red rigs and ambulance vans at the open house event. Parents lifted toddlers into fire trucks, and families led their trepid but curious kids on a guided tour of the city jail.

The event was also a time to remember those who died in the terrorist attacks. Flowers, candles and thank you notes decorated the 9/11 memorial in front of the station.
